Gabbeh rugs are very simple tribal rugs that have become very popular only recently. The patterns are generally very sparse, and often depict simple characters including animals and people. Reproductions are currently being made in Pakistan, India, Nepal and China, but the Gabbeh is an Iranian creation. The film “Gabbeh” was one of the first Iranian films to find a wide audience in the West, and it is a love store about a female weaver of Gabbeh rugs.
